About us
The rescue contacts for the Dachshund Rescue of Southwestern Ohio are a dedicated group with a love for the breed. Our volunteer work is our way of returning the love these sweet dogs have given to us. Our goal is provide care and new homes for unwanted, abandoned and needy dachshunds.

About Rescued Dachshunds:
Rescued dachshunds tend to be between 2 and 9 years old. They must be spayed or neutered as a condition of rescue. The dachshunds come from various situations... some are still with their current owners and are awaiting placement. Reasons for placement range from death of a owner, divorce, a new baby or moving. Some owners find that they were unprepared for the lifestyle requirements that exist when you own a dog. Other dachshunds find their way into our program when they are left at local shelters or are found as strays. Thanks to our volunteers, those dachshunds are retrieved from the shelters before they are euthanized and are kept in foster care.

How does rescue work?
We act as a match-making service for dachshunds in need. We try to gather as much info as we can about the dachshund and then search through our list of interested families to see if we have a matching environment.

Interested?
If you have interest in adopting a dachshund in need of a home or would like to help with the rescue effort, please feel free to contact a member of our group. Please keep in mind, in order to be considered to adopt a dog on our site, you must fill out our online application. We may ask for further clarification at another time, but the application provides us with the basics about your home environment.

There is no set adoption fee for these dogs. Each dog in our program has a different background. The dogs in our program are vet checked, up to date on their shots and are spayed/neutered before placement. We ask for a donation to the group to cover the funds used for their medical care and to help keep the group going... so we can continue to help dogs in need.
