Lucky

Lucky is 5 years old, 14 pounds, shots up to date. He is red piebald long haired. He is housebroken and well mannered; he walks nicely on the leash and does well when meeting other dogs. He would do best with a fenced yard and absolutely must not go to a home with small children. He is currently living with owners in Wellsville, Ohio (in the eastern part of the state not far from Pittsburgh, PA)

Sammie

Sammie  loves to play with people,  dogs, and other pets in our care; especially with Duke another red dachshund who looks very much like Sammie. They play and play with each other and are so cute to watch as they  interact with each other.  However, he gets along well, with anyone he meets. He is in very good health and is up to date on all of his medical care.  Sammie will surely perk up any household with his great personality and funny antics.  Duke or Sammie, might be just what you are looking for to perk up your life.

Duke

Duke is a super friendly, little guy.  He feels that he is a “lap dog” and thinks nothing of jumping up in your lap, for some quality time. He is in very good health and is probably 2 to 4 years old,  He likes to play and seems to hang out with another rescued dachsie we have named Sammie, They both came into the same shelter, at different times, but Duke and Sammie look enough alike, to be litter mates.  For someone looking for two dachsies, Duke and  Sammie would be ideal.   Sammie was picked up as a stray and went to the animal shelter.  Unfortunately they did not have room for another dog….so you know what that means.  His owners did not come to claim Sammie, so we took him from the shelter, to save his life.  He will be a wonderful buddy for someone.

Sadie

Sadie – female wire haired, approximately 5 years old. She weighs about 11 pounds, has been spayed, wormed, shots up to date. She is very sweet, a little timid at first but very friendly, loves to sit on your lap. Her background is unknown. She doesn’t like being crated or kenneled. She enjoys other dogs and would probably do best with someone who can spend some time with housebreaking  and who has another dog for her to pattern her behavior. She is in foster care in Delaware, Ohio.

Dashiell

Dashiell

Silver Dapple Smooth Male Dachshund, age 4, 16 pounds of total devotion. Housebroken, crate-trained, good with dogs, cats and kids. Walks nicely on a leash, loves to sit with you on the sofa, but not obnoxious about it. Enjoys riding in the car. Came in as a stray, but must have been someone’s beloved pet. Very affectionate and intelligent little dog in excellent health. Fostered in Dayton.

Harley

Harley -  year and a half neutered male, 14 pounds, crate trained and friendly. Family feels that they no longer have time for Harley because of a new baby. They have not been able to follow through on his house training. He definitely needs a fenced yard. Harley is a young dog with a lot of potential; he is still living with owners in Troy.

Ziva

Ziva – one year old mini long. She’s obedient, spayed, microchipped, and up
to date on shots. She crate trained and although is sometimes confined for
8-9 hours never has an accident in it. However she has not yet caught on to
the idea of asking to go out. Her current owner thinks having another dog to
set an example would help. She loves children, other dogs, and comes when
called. She is currently living with her owner east of Columbus.

Casey

Casey is a  5 year old female who is spayed. She is black and tan and weights 15 lbs.
She is current on all shots and is heartworm negative. She gets along well with other dogs. She is very smart and playful.

Dewey

Dewey – Dewey has been neutered. He will be 3 years old on March 15. He is
a smooth haired red “tweenie” dachshund and weighs 23 pounds. (He is a
little over weight right now, but on a diet.) He is up to date on shots and
is in perfect health other than his emotional issues. He is housebroken,
crate trained and minds very well. He is sweet, he loves to cuddle, play
fetch, go for walks and always wants to be near you. He is affectionate and
protective but means well. When a large dog became part of Dewey’s household
he became very fearful and started a pattern of submissive urination. Dewey
needs a quiet home where events and expectations are quite consistent and
predictable. Dewey is still with his owner in central Ohio.

Taffy

Taffy – 5 years old, spayed, shots up to date. She is house trained and barks when she wants to go outside. She lived with an elderly owner who is now deceased and relatives cannot keep her. She is accustomed to being the only dog but might be ok with another dachshund. She is in the Cincinnati area.

Freddie

Freddie – 4 year old intact male, will need to be neutered before placement. His shots are up to date, weighs about 13 pounds. He does well with cats and other dogs and is okay with children. We would like to find a home with another dog to keep him company. Owner took him back from a bad situation, and although he was housebroken once, he now needs some reinforcement training with plenty of patience. He is very affectionate, and loves to be under blankets. He is still living with his owner in the Cincinnati area who no longer has sufficient time to devote to him.

Woody and Snoopy

Woody – 16 pounds, red neutered male. He is up to date on shots, crate trained and housebroken, one year old. He can climb out of a three foot fence so definitely needs a secure yard. He’s a little cautious with strangers but quickly warms up.

Snoopy – 12 pounds, blk/tan neutered male. He is up to date on shots, crate trained and housebroken, one year old. He’s good with other small dogs. Snoopy loves to sit in laps.
Their owner would like to see them remain together; she reluctantly must part with them because of her long work hours.

Sophie

Sophie – 12 years old, loves people including children. She is in great health, all shots, teeth cleaned 10/18/10, and completely housebroken. Although she likes to go for car rides and play ball, she can be a real couch potato curling up under the blankets. Her owner is moving and must part with her; she is in the Akron area.

Abbey

Abbey – 11 year old dapple. She has been blind for about a year but gets around fine. She is completely housebroken and sleeps in her crate at night. She loves people and being close to them. She receives one eye drop each morning to keep the pressure down. She is not used to young children but would love to be an older person’s companion. She is living near Akron with her owner who reluctantly must part with her because of a move and career change.

Quinten

Quinten – 1 year old male, 16 pounds. He’s housebroken, crate trained, and current on all of his shots. (He rings a bell when he has to go outside.) His family has an older dachshund and feel that Quinten has too much energy for their household. A fenced yard would be nice although he does well on a leash. He’s not accustomed to small children so a home with older kids and adults would be best. He’s a real lap dog and loves to snuggle under a blanket. He should probably be neutered. He is living with his owner in Fairfield, Ohio.

Amelia & Clair

3 female puppies, born August 6th. They will be ready to go to new homes at approximately 9 weeks of age. Their family was keeping a college-aged son’s dog and were under the impression that their own 12 year old male was too old to sire pups. Events proved this assumption wrong; they were soon over whelmed with puppy care and asked rescue to find good homes for the three little girls. Amelia, blk/tan (with toy in picture), is the most adventurous and out-going. Babette, also blk/tan, is more reserved and slower to accept new surroundings. Clare (short for chocolate éclair) is a pretty chocolate/tan pup. The parents were both about 10 pounds, friendly and good tempered. The pups are in foster care near Dayton.

Winslow

Winslow – a 5 ½ year old neutered male, about 16 pounds, shots up to date, housebroken. Winslow is quite friendly and affectionate, unfortunately he’s been diagnosed with PRA – progressive retinal atrophy. This is an hereditary aliment which causes total blindness for which there is no cure or treatment; thankfully there is no pain either. Blind dogs can function quite well by relying on their senses of smell and hearing. It helps if there is another dog in the family that they can tag around after – and Winslow loves other dogs. His family feels that they must give him up as they have very young children. He is living in foster care in the Cleveland area.

Lil’ Bit and Ginger

Lil’ Bit and Ginger are AKC registered dachshunds who are 6 years old.  They had the same dad but different mothers.  Their owner who is an elderly lady, has dementia and is now living in a nursing home. She loved and cared for her dogs, but she is no longer able to care for herself, or Ginger, and Lil Bit. Unfortunately, there  is nobody in her family who is able to take them. They were taken to their local pounds but there was no room for them,so they would be euthanised. The family brought them home
and contacted our rescue.
The dogs are presently being fostered in Dayton, Ohio. The owner had not been able to care for them recently, due to her health. The foster mom has been catching them up on their medical care. They are spayed and are now current on all of  their shots and testings..
The best part about these dogs is their lovable personalities. They seem to love everybody….real lap dogs. They are perfectly housebroken and have not had accidents in their foster home. They were not used to a fenced yard but were walked on a leash. We would like to see them  go to a fenced yard, as they now love to be outside.  Presently they are sleeping with their foster mom and her dachshund.  In their original home there was a cat.

We prefer to keep Ginger and Lil’ Bit together, with someone who has plenty of time to spend with them. as they love attention.

Jackson

Jackson is absolutely delightful.  He seems to be very smart and tries to please you.  He absolutely loves everybody.  His little tail never quits wagging.

He rides very well in the car.  Jackson found a ball on his own, from another dog in the house and brought it to us, to throw for him.  He has even caught the ball in the air, on a fly.  When the ball is just lying on the floor, he might push it to you with his nose, so you can throw it to him again.

He is perfectly housebroken.  Jackson is like the perfect little dog.  His coat feels so nice and silky,  He likes to sleep with his foster folks and to snuggle and be held.. .Jackson seems to be very smart and will make a wonderful pet for someone.

Chloe

Chloe is such a sweet little gal, who unfortunately was picked up by the dog warden, in her city and was taken to a dog shelter.  We feel that her owner must be grieving for this little 12 pound girl.  She is in very good health; but did need a dental, which we did this week.  She did loose 4 teeth; but we all know that a dog or even the dog’s owner, is better off without any bad teeth. She ate well, even on the day of her dental.
Whoever adopts Chloe will be a very happy person, when she comes to live with you.

Patches

This very pretty, little, 7 month old puppy came into rescue with her tiny little sister (Miss Peanut)Both of these girls are really nice puppies who are fun to watch as they play together.
She is doing well with her housebreaking.  Someone will be very fortunate to add this little gal to their forever home.

Miss Peanut

Miss Peanut  is a tiny 5-6 pound dachshund pup who is 7 months old.  We have her litter mate Patches in  our rescue also.  Because of her exceptionally small size we would like to see her go to a home with no small children.  She loves to play in her fenced yard.  She will need a very safe fence, as she is tiny enough to get through many fences.
The foster family is finishing housebreaking her.  She still needs to be spayed, but we will see that this cute little dappled dog is spayed.

Max

Max is a darling little 8 pound dachsie, who is one year old.  He is very friendly with both humans and the other dogs in his foster home.  This little cutie will certainly brighten up his new home.

Luke

Luke is a very special little dachshund who is being fostered in the Harrisson, Ohio area.  He seems to get a long well with everyone, human and animal,  He is current on all of his medical care.  He rides wonderfully in the car and likes to travel. He gets a long with other dogs.  Luke would like to have an owner to snuggle with.

Junior

Junior is a beautiful, red smooth, standard dachshund.  He is 3-4 years old. Jr. weighs 19 pounds and is current on all of his vet care.  He is very good with older children and other animals.  He is such a nice boy, who deserves a loving forever home.

Pico

It is hard to believe, but  someone  moved off and left this little red, dachshund in their home.  Fortunately, he was found before harm came his way.  He is a very happy, friendly, well-behaved dog.  It is just hard to understand how this could happen to him.  He doesn’t seem to have any problems and is even housebroken.  Sometimes is is just hard to figure out what some folks are thinking, when they just leave a loving pet.

Pico is now ready to go to a new ‘forever” home. as he is current on all of his veternarian care.

Guenther

Guenther is a very handsome, trim,  little man, who should go to a home with someone who would like to have a little buddy to play with.  Guenther loves to play fetch and will play as long as someone will throw the ball for him.

He is good both with people or animals.  Guenther is housebroken.  Whoever adopts Guienther will find that their life has been enriched more than you can even imagine, He is current on all of his medIcal care

Susie

Susie is a terrific little love bug.  This little gal was found by the dog warden and taken to the local shelter. She was not claimed by her owner and was going to be put down.  Unfortunately the shelter just did not have room for another dog.
We  feel bad that her owner did not have an opportunity to claim as she is so sweet. and appears to have been loved.  (We think they may have give her a few too many treats, as she might need to loose a pound or two)  but it is hard not to spoil this little girl, with extra treats!
She is housebroken.  Susie will be a real pleasure to her new owner.

Lexi & Hans

Hans and Lexi – Hans is a neutered male long-hair black and tan, and turned 8 years old on May 20. He is in good health and gets along well with all people and most dogs, but he cannot be in a home with cats. Hans is completely house broken except when left alone for long periods of time.

Lexie is a spayed female short-hair black and tan, and turned 7 on January 20. Lexie is more needy than Hans, as she was diagnosed with IVDD two and a half years ago. She was paralyzed for 6 weeks in September/October 2007 but made a near-full recovery. She still has a bit of “drunk rear-end” and can have trouble controlling her bathroom urges. She is otherwise house broken. Special care needs to be taken since she is at high risk for re-injury of her back. She can be nippy around small children, most dogs besides Hans, and cats, but loves teens and adults. Both Hans and Lexie are very affectionate dogs.
Their owner has lost her home and must relocate. This pair has been together since puppyhood and must stay together. They are living in the Cincinnati area.

Jack The Wire

Jack the Wire – Jack is 13 pounds, mostly wire haired dachshund. He’s  approximately 2 years, neutered and up to date on shots. He’s good with older children, other dogs, and cats. He loves attention and sleeping on the sofa. Jack is in foster care near Toledo.

Oscar

Oscar – 7 year old neutered male in excellent health with up-to-date shots. Oscar doesn’t not get along with his family’s 3 year old twins and needs a home with no small children. He is very loving and affectionate, knows several commands, sit, down, roll over, etc. He is housebroken, would probably do best with a fenced yard but is not a runner. He weighs about 13 pounds. He gets along fine with other doxies but might need some time to adjust to a larger dog in the household. He is living in Lebanon, Ohio.

Doug

Doug is a sweet, sensitive, and inquisitive dog that  is always willing to go off on an adventure with you.  He likes other dogs, of all sizes and is tolerant of cats.  He loves kids and adults.  He rides well in the car and likes to go shopping for pet goodies with his foster family.  He likes both men and women equally and will cuddle with you on the couch.  He has nice leash manners and is eager to please.  He has had a dental with some teeth extractions, but is doing well.  Doug was also neutered.  We all know that it is better for dogs, like humans, to have some of the teeth removed, rather than to have an unhealthy mouth.

Doug was picked up by the dog warden, as a stray.  He was unfortunately not claimed by his owner, so he was to be euthanised.   We couldn’t let that happen.  He is such a great dog, that he deserves, to find a new forever home this time

Pepper

Pepper is a handsome, smooth coated, dapple dachshund.  He is nearly 2 years old.  Pepper has a very loving personality; loves to snuggle and give kisses.  He apparently has never ridden in a car, as he was uneasy, but he will learn as dachsies are usually good travelers.  He gets along great with other dogs!

Fred

Fred – neutered male, shots up to date, 4 years old. He weighs about 20 pounds but is losing pounds in his new foster home. Foster mom reports that he is very affectionate, loves to nap in the chair beside her, and is a great leash walker. He gets along fine with her cats and other dog. He is housebroken, crate trained, and loves to retrieve his ball. His owner had to relinquish him due to a death in the family and a subsequent move. Fred is in foster care in the Dayton area.

Pico

Pico is a very handsome black and light tan dachshund.  His markings are exceptionally handsome.   Unfortunately his former owners did not seem to understand the personality of a dachshund and decided to give him up.

So far he is getting along well with both the humans and the other dogs in the foster home.  He has a real fondness for another dachshund in our rescue, a long haired dachsie named Buddy.  They play and play together so well.  The foster family said that if someone would like two dachsies these little guys would be a great pair.

Pico is current on all medical care. We would like to see Pico go to a home without children, as has no kids in his foster home and he seems very happy and playful.

Oscar

Oscar – 3 year old intact male, housebroken, shots up to date. Current owner’s children have developed an allergy so Oscar needs a new home. Oscar is quite anxious and nervous around strangers (and hates being bathed) so his new owners will need plenty of patience and kindness. Oscar is located south of Columbus and will have to be neutered before placement.

Shadow

Shadow – Miniature neutered male, healthy 6 year old, shots are up to date. Shadow’s owner died unexpectedly and the relatives he’s currently living with must give him up because of an allergic daughter. He is good with kids but has not been around other animals. His elderly owner kept him in the house all the time and he is trained to use newspaper. He is currently with caretakers north of Columbus.

Baxter

Baxter – 6 year old long haired male, will be neutered soon, very affectionate but does not get along with other dogs or small children. He likes to go for walks and loves to be petted. Baxter is in foster care in Lancaster, Ohio

Buddy

Buddy is 5 years old, neutered and in good health. He is current on his shots until April. His owners are giving him up because their work schedule has increased to 14 hours a day and the little dog suffers from a bit of separation anxiety. Here’s what his owners say about him, “He weighs about 10-11 lbs. and could probably stand to lose a little (if we could keep from giving him treats).  Buddy is housebroken for the most part, but he does need to go out frequently and would probably do best in a home where he has outside access regularly, not like our current situation.  He does not really require a fenced yard.  He has never wandered very far, he prefers to stay close to home.  Buddy comes with a collar, retractable leash, kennel, blanket, ceramic food and water dishes, and all other supplies we have (including flea and heartworm treatments).

Buddy gets along great with dogs of all sizes, ignores cats and enjoys the company of all people, especially women.  Given his past in a puppy mill, we think he has some separation anxiety, which is only intensified because we are at work for such long hours.  The poor little guy just needs a regular schedule and a very loving home.”

Buddy is living with his owners in SW Ohio.

Romeo

Romeo – Romeo is 4 years old, neutered with shots up to date. He is housebroken and good with other dogs and cats. He does require a fenced yard. He weighs 12 pounds. His owner states that “he is not good with strangers”. With kindness and patience, Romeo should make a good pet. Romeo is living with his owner in Newark, Ohio.

Bailey

Bailey – He is about 5 years old. He is completely housebroken and gets along with all the foster’s other dogs. When he arrived in foster care he was a little timid and nervous at first but has made himself at home and loves to be cuddled. He loves to go for walks too.
He is up-to-date on his shots and will be neutered soon. Bailey is in foster care in Lancaster Ohio.

Odie

Odie is a darling little, 10 month old pup. HIs owner is very sad, as she must relocate her pup, due to repeat kneee surgury which was done yesterday. She will hopefully, be home the end of the week and is terrified of fallng or tripping orver tiny Odie. He is a friendly little boy, who loves to ride in the car. He sleeps in bed with his owner. If he is taken outside, he is housebroken. We will be having him neutered and caught up on medical care.

Zoar

Zoar is a very handsome, 22 pound, Irish spotted piebald dachshund, who is 2 years old.  He gets a long with cats. and other little dogs. He has always slept with his owner.  Zoar’s owners had another little dachshund and a chihuahua; but unfortunately the lady owner  developed Alzheimer’s disease and her husband has his hand’s full, caring for her.  A young friend volunteered to take Zoar home, although he was not equipped for a a dog. Zoar was accustomed to going outside, as he is perfectly housebroken.  The only way that Zoar can go outside thenew owner thought was tied to a line, or going for walks and frequently this is not convenient.  He states that she can wait an entire day, if left alone without pottying in the house; but that just isn’t fair..The little children where Zoar is staying are not good with the dog and want to play with him constantly, rather than letting him have any time for just being a lapdog.  We would like for Zoar to go to an adult home, where children will not “pester” him continuously.  He is 2 years old.  If you think your home can accommodate a “love bug” Zoar could be your new best buddy.

Jack

Jack is a very nice  middleaged, little man, who needs his own person to spoil him.  He was one of many in his previous home and he loves being the “main man’   He needed a dental and did have some teeth extracted, however he is doing great now.    We have noticed that this particular family of dachsies, all had some gray hairs in their coats. regardless of their ages.  He is very pretty and shiney. Wouldn’t you love to have him spend some one on one time with you, as he loves to be held and cuddle?

He  is current on all  vet care

Ty

Ty is a very nice, approximately 3 year old mini dachsie. He is a bit of a chub, but he is going to try and slim down a bit (that was our New Year’s resolution for him…not necessarily his resolution, because he just learned that he can not clean up the little bites, he finds in the other dog’s dishes anymore) :-)

He has a wonderful personality and will be so happy to find his own family. He gets along well and plays with other dogs Ty is a cuddler and loves to be with you.

His housetraining is coming along well and he will do fine, if there is someone around to guide him, for awhile.
have Ty is current on all medical care

Emme and ManMan

Emme (top picture) is a dapple, 15 pound dachshund whose owner died recently.  She and her buddy ManMan lived together happily in a home who spoiled them.  Unfortunately there is not anyone  in the family or a friend to take them in. They are presently staying with a family member who fosters infants and will not be able to keep them.  Emme does better around older children, however ManMan is very good around everyone.  If possible it would be fantastic if they can stay together.  They are located  in an Ohio city close to PA and W. VA, if a caring home might be found in either of those states.

ManMan is a dark, red dachshund whose owner died recently.  ManMan and his little friend Emme had a great life living together with an elderly owner, but she recently passed away.  There does not seem to be anyone to spoil them now, that she has passed away. ManMan has an exceptionally good temperament and LOVES everybody.  Hopefully,  ManMan and his companion Emma will be able to go to a new home together. They are still with a family member, in an Ohio city, that is also convenient for possible adopters to live in PA or W.VA

The foster family states that they Emme and ManMan are spayed/neutered. housebroken, and spoiled.

Lucky

Lucky is a sweet natured little black and tan dachshund who is in need of a new forever home. This little 6 plus year old dachsie loves attention, particularly getting his tummy rubbed (as his photo shows) In his foster home, he has a doogie door and knows how to use it to go outside into his fenced back yard, under supervision. We would prefer, for him to have a fence, in his new home. He is current on vacc. heartworm testing, etc. Lucky’s foster home states that at first he was “a bit shy and humble” However, for the person who is looking for a faithful companion, they will love having Lucky share their home.
